Deniliquin is a substantial and prosperous Outback town located on the Edward River, a branch of the Murray River, some 734 km south-west of Sydney via the Hume and Riverina Highways.
Apart from being a substantial service centre the town's location on the Edward River makes it ideal for fishing, waterskiing, canoeing, boating, swimming, and relaxing on both sandy McLeans Beach and Willoughby's Beach which lies within the state forest. There are boat ramps, a golf course, and river cruises to enjoy.
This is a very different Outback experience because Deniliquin lies between four irrigation districts which cover 725 000 hectares. The region produces rice, wool, dairy products, wheat, barley, fat lambs, vegetables and fruit, timber and cattle. To the north of the town are several famous Merino studs.
The town's main attractions include a number of pleasant parks – both botanic and natural bushland; the Stevens Weir and Galveston Lakes Water Ski Park; and the Peppin Heritage Centre which offers visitors an opportunity to understand the local wool industry. Deniliquin hosts the giant World Record Ute Muster each year in early October.
