Collarenabri is a charming, tiny township on the banks of Barwon River which has become a favourite haunt for fishermen who come to the town and the district to catch cod, yellow belly and catfish in the river.
It is located 792 km northwest of Sydney and 145 km west of Moree and it basically exists to service the surrounding properties.
There were once plans for the town to become a port on the Barwon River but the water level was unreliable.
Today it is surrounded by good grazing land which has been used since European settlers arrived around 1845. The local Aboriginal community have established a large local cemetery which is a sacred site.
