One of the newer parks, The Paroo-Darling National Park spans two distinct regions covering the arid catchment area of the Paroo River (Peery and Poloko Lakes) and the Paroo-Darling confluence to the south.

The northern section of the park, near White Cliffs, is developing a day use area while the southern section covers the old Wilga Station and incorporates one of the best camping areas along the Darling River - Coach and Horses campground which is 50lm east of Wilcannia

Peery Lake is a haven for water birds and when full (as it is currently) will contain water for several years.

The Paroo River is the only unregulated rivers within the Murray Darling Basin and sustains wonderfully diverse ecosystem.

Camping (no fires) is available at the Coach and Horses campground while the northern section provides day use facilities only.

Access to the park is via a dry weather road.

Central Darling Partners

Central Darling Council

Silverton
Central Darling Shire, at over 53,000 square kms, is the largest Local Government Area in NSW. Conversely, it has one of the lowest poplation densities (2000 residents) dispersed throughout the towns of Ivanhoe, Menindee, Wilcannia and White Cliffs, and its localities of Darnick, Mossgiel, Sunset Strip and Tilpa.

White Cliffs Opal Field

Whitecliffs
White Cliffs was the first to establish this country as the world’s leading producer of this fiery stone. The opals mined here were far more vivid and vastly superior to opals mined in other countries, and White Cliffs opals quickly became popular, particularly in Europe, paving the way for the opening of opal fields in other parts of Australia. The galleries here are a great place to shop for locally mined opals that have been cut and set by expert jewellers.
